Entry from: Many Glaciers, United States Entry Title: "Montana's crown jewel -- Glacier National Park" Entry: ""Far away in northwestern Montana, hidden from view by clustering mountain peaks, lies an unmapped corner -- the Crown of the Continent." George Bird Grinnell (1901) It's hard for someone who loves being in nature as much as I do to pick a favorite National Park. There's so many great ones from which to choose -- the Grand Canyon, Bryce, Yosemite...you can see the dilemma. My three favorite National Parks are Glacier, Yosemite and Yellowstone, two of which are in Montana. While both Yosemite and Yellowstone are unique, my heart belongs to Glacier National Park. I love the rugged majesty of Glacier! I love it so much that I talked about the area with Chris Christenson of the Amateur Traveler podcast; if you want to hear that episode click here. The park's fascinating landscape was shaped by glaciers, especially during the last major ice age some 10000 years ago, so the name of the park is apt. There are at least 25 glaciers persisting in the park and for me it's still a thrill to hike to one or see it at a distance. Historically it was home to Blackfoot and Flathead Indians who knew this region as the "Shining Mountains" and the "Backbone of the World". Glacier was the tenth unit ...

Entry from: Cuzco, Peru Entry Title: "Inca Trail" Entry: "Day One Up at 6.00am for our pick up that was an hour late, we headed via bus to Ollantayambo, a small village close to the start for the Inca Trail. We stopped here long enough for a coffee, mooch around the square then picked up our porters and tents etc. Back on the bus, we arrived at Kilometer 82 half an hour later for lunch where we were introduced to our guide George (from Peru) and fellow Inca Trail trekker Simon, from Surrey. At around 1pm we started walking and headed for the gateway to the Inca Trail (a small foot suspension bridge over the raging Urubamba River) it was a pretty easy walk - things were looking good. After crossing the bridge, George informed us of our route - straight up and through the mountains that loomed above us engulfed in thick cloud cover.....it was going to be tough. The trail was beautiful. We ascended quickly above the river, then the trail leveled out. We walked through fields of cactus's´s, Alpine passes and meadows. A few hours in, we came across our first ruins - halfway houses used as overnight stopovers by the Incas, a large fort and a small village below with incredible terraces and religious buildings. At around 5pm we arrived at Wayllabamba, our campsite for the night at 2650m. It was in a ...

"Lake beneath Grandeur of the Alps" Jhnlee's photos about Como, Italy (things to do in como alps)

Preview of Jhnlee's blog at TravelPod. Read the full blog here: www.travelpod.com This blog preview was made by TravelPod using the TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow creator. Entry from: Como, Italy Entry Title: "Lake under Grandeur of the Alps" Entry: "After the incident of nearing miss the train (the girls were actually trying to hold the train while the guys were rushing with the lunch packs and heavy backpacks) and a rough lunch onboard, we arrived Como in the afternoon. Located at the north of Milan, Como, on the southern edge of Lago di Como (Lake Como) is the main access town to the lake. Some were saying that although the lakeside location is stunning, but the place was popularized after George Clooney decided to reside here.. hahaha. We took the Funicolare (Cable car) from Como to Brunate, a quiet hilltop village offering the view of the lake and Como town. But unfortunately, it was very foggy during the time we were there. Although we missed the splendid view, we spent a lazy afternoon having our coffee moments, laid back and letting all that we experienced in Italy to sink in, as Como will be the last stop we have in Italy before we switch to Paris, France. It was about sunset when we got down from Brunate. Walking along the waterfront, looking at the lake turned molten gold in the setting sun, it was the perfect gift from Italy for bidding our adieu. In Como town, it has relatively fewer attractions, but its narrow pedestrian lanes were pleasure to explore. There ...
